"Shoot the Curl" is a state-of-the-art rope net playground that brings life to the Village Center.

A new custom-designed Dynamo rope net playground called “Shoot the Curl” was recently installed by Pacific Play Systems at the Woodbridge Village Center in Irvine, California. Located in Orange County, the Woodbridge Village Center offers a mix of shopping, dining, and a place for community gathering. In 2016, The Irvine Company sought out a plan to revitalize the shopping center with a concept to include a new playground area for children ages 5-12. Pacific Play Systems, a leader in the design and installation of commercial playground equipment in southern California was thrilled to work with The Irvine Company. Knowing they wanted something exciting and different, Pacific Play’s designers teamed up with Dynamo Playgrounds to design a unique play area for the popular shopping center.

The innovative Shoot the Curl rope course structure combines an abundance of unique play opportunities which guarantees that children will have the best possible play experience. Children love the compelling net climbing design! This design is not only appealing, but it also provides excellent play value to children of different ages and abilities by encouraging imagination, movement, balance, strength and fitness, all while providing a high level of active play and fun!

This new rope course designed for the age group 5-12 holds up to 55 children at a time. It is a 20mm diameter, polyimide rope cable with UV protection and fire-retardant solution. Each rope consists of 6 strands, each containing 24 galvanized steel reinforcing strands within a polyamide sleeve, wrapped around a solid polyamide core for a total of 144 steel reinforcing strands!

Additional aspects of the Woodbridge Village Center project included the installation of playground surfacing and, as we all know, surfacing plays a significant role in designing a playground. To give this play area a lively look, Pacific Play provided a green and blue colored lily pad design for its poured-in-place surfacing. This new project completed by Pacific Play at the Woodbridge Village Center has brought new spark to the shopping center and to the community of Irvine!
